It appears as if we had fun.....

and we did, it just took 45 minutes to get the gear on and another 1/2 hour to give ellie her necessary freak out time regarding the tags that are so iiiiitttttttttcccccccccchhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyyyyy on the tshirt, leggings, hoodie, snowpants, coat, mittens, and boots. aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. The 15 minutes outside in the freshly fallen snow was worth it?!

At our house...

we decorated our FAKER tree, dressed the mantle with stockings and the sofa table with the the nativity, ate lil smokies wrapped in crescent rolls and ate chocolate chip cookies dipped in egg nog, and watched christmas vacation (well, i did, everyone else fell asleep)..which i guess is good considering we were at a loss for how to proceed with the children during the inappropriate outburst scenes.....

little known fact

... if you carry a temper-tantrum throwing 4 year old, kicking and screaming into a mall bathroom in order to try to displine and calm her down...you may end up being greeted by a large detachment of mall security officers when you finally exit.

Now you know.

Wish I had :)

Vacation in Oregon

Goonies never say die.

No one probably checks our blog anymore....lost hope that anything might ever be posted again....but maybe there is one person who does....this is for you! Recognize this rock? Its from Goonies....we visited the town that part of it was filmed in and rented the movie too...love that movie....while we were on vacation, i heard that Dirty Dancing was going to be shown at Top of the Park in Ann Arbor - I ALMOST didn't go on vacation-that is how bummed i was that I missed it. Luckily it rained that day here, so hopefully no one else got to see it either. Its funny how young all the actors look - when those movies came out, i was younger than them, now I am older. Thats a wierd feeling. Anyway, thought this might be mildly entertaining....

thoughts on fruit

Why do they call them "smoothies" when there are seeds in there? I hate seeds and any type of fruit particles in things - like yogurt, smoothies..... I think its really misleading to call something a smoothie that is NOT smooth! I like the kid yougurt that is like sugary yumminess and some unnatural color like BLUE! But I can't exactly eat those all the time because for one, they are expensive, and two, its a little embarrasing.

Confession of a desperate mother

So, I have told this story twice since it happened, apparently i am quite pleased with myself.....I walked into the gym this morning, gave my card to the lady, she swiped it like always, then I began the walk/run (me/ellie) down the hall to the child center where ellie and aria hang out during my workout. Ellie arrives in the child center 30 seconds before i do, like always because of the running she does and the shuffle/walk/try-not-to-knock-anyone-out-with my-bag-or-my-kid-in-the-other-arm thing that I do....Ellie is coughing her brains out by the time she gets there - and she always is - she is Dions daughter, she has constant post-nasal drip, allergies, MAYBE a cold from like a month ago, its like negative 50 outside, and she has just sprinted a half mile. So, the friendly teenager behind the desk asks "Does she have a cold?" and before she can get that sentence out, I firmly and guiltily reply, "SHE HAS ASTHMA".

Why did I say that? WEll, if she really had asthma, it would be obvious, right? She totally doesn't have asthma. I just said it, it came out and i have no clue why....so then i covered my lie (poorly) and said she has allergies (which have actually never been diagnosed, but I'm sure she really does have them) and I gave her the post-nasal drip bit too. So, I am feeling like a jackass, partially because I am sure she knows I am lying, partially because I am ashamed of myself, that its just IN me to lie lie lie. I never lie though. I try not to. So, I go into the locker room singing to myself to try and take away the embarrassed feeling....then i think to myself, I'm just gonna go tell her the truth, I can fix this. So, I went out and told her that Ellie doesn't have athsma, that it came out of my mouth and i didn't know why....she kinda looked at me like i was a nutjob, which I TOTALLY am...she said "you're fine". I wanted to crawl into an even deeper darker hole then, especially since there were other moms standing waiting to pick up their snot-nosed little ones (by which ellie was originally infected, by the way, even though its totally allergies that she inherited multiplied by the running and the air and absolutely NOT a cold).

I forgot to include some fib about being on antibiotics for many days previous...oh well, i will use that next time.

Just kidding. I really don't lie!!! hardly ever!!!! I was caught by surprise with this one, but hopefully next time I will keep it together and be the confident HONEST mother that I usually am :)
